Be a Better Gift-Giver in 3 Easy Steps

The season of gift-giving is always just around the corner. If it isn’t Christmastime, it’s an anniversary or a birthday. Some people have the knack of giving gifts easily, but for others, it’s a stressful trial every time. So how do the people who always find the perfect gift do it? There are a few tricks of the trade.

Personalize

There is more to gift giving than making a list and checking it twice. You want to make sure that your gifts are meaningful, and that means taking the time to make sure that each gift is tailored to its recipient’s particular interests and style. That might mean a personalized bookmark or a thoughtful souvenir or some other gift, depending entirely on the tastes of the recipient.

Take Note

Speaking of list-making, it is a good idea to collect gift ideas throughout the year. This way you don’t have to hustle and stress when the season itself comes around. Take note of things that your friends mention that they like or want throughout the year, but don’t forget to check that they haven’t lost interest when the time comes to give the gift.

Stockpile

Not all presents can be safely purchased in advance, but if you can, it’s a great idea. Not only does this spread the expense across several paychecks, it also prevents you from forgetting to pick up that one present idea you thought of three months ago. Just don’t forget to get it out of the closet when the time comes, and make sure the recipient doesn’t find out!

It’s just as easy — and as hard — as that. Being a good gift-giver is a skill that anyone can learn, but it does take planning, dedication and attention to detail. It’s something to think of all year round, not just when the season is upon you.
